Well now that we have
finally gotten followthebeat.com up running its time for the
voyage to begin.
In the beginning, There was a deep bass beat followed by synth
stabs, piano rolls and various electronica. As is with most
DJs the love for music was always there, though until a few
years ago it was only mainstream audio that peeked an interest.
Hooked up with some friends in the know and a few house parties
later Nagmier began to cultivate a liking for House and Trance.
But it wasn't until Ultra 5 @ Miami's Winter Music Conference
2003 that becoming a DJ was something to even be considered.
Mccord fresh off the jet from San Fransisco came bearing the
gift of new tunes to devour, thoughly ensconced in tunes for
the trip to Miami we set off. XM Radio locked on the Dance
station, friends in tow meeting
us the next afternoon we headed south on I-75 from Tampa to
Miami a quick stop just North of Alligator Alley for Auto
Fuel and some fuel for the XM Boombox (Batteries DUH!) Bass
pounding, tunes blazing and the voyage was underway but far
far from over. After a wrong turn or 3 we found the hotel
and once again fate was on our side. We were DIRECTLY across
the street was Bayfront Park site of Ultra 5, and just so
happens a room with a view was in our future. Chill was the
mood that night Mccord and I went to a bar had a couple beers
and basically relaxed taking in the aura that was Miami Winter
Music Conference 2003. Ultra 5 was in the least a life experience
but for me it was a life altering experience, I Saw Tiesto,
Baby Anne, Rabbit in the Moon, Sandra Collins, Sander Kleinberg,
(Heard) Paul Van Dyk and so many more, Though the name, face,
attitude and style that stick so prominently in my brain to
this day is Donald Glaude. I remember enjoying a set relaxing
with some friends and Mccord comes out of no where (He had
been off to see another DJ) breaks my peace and requests my
attention some miles away from where I was, with the promise
of something awe inspiring. To the arena in the center of
it all where a rather indiscript man is on the decks his set
had just started so I began to wonder what was so great about
this guy. All of the sudden BAM it hit me like a 747 falling
out of the sky watching the man perform was incredible words
cannot describe the performace if you haven't seen him live
you cannot know what I am talking about. GO see Donald Glaude
Live check
here for tour dates. If you don't you are selling yourself
short. I strive to take elemts from what he does and intergrate
them into my sets and put a little bit of my own flavor into
it I don't want to copy him, although I don't think its possible,
The mold was certainly broken after he was cast. So continues
my voyage today to give to the world my own little slice of
heaven as I see it, music is a universal language and it matters
not who you are it has an affect on you one way or another.
My journey will never be complete as it is I feel its just
building up steam.
I do love trance but I love
that Funky house beat too, though I don't spin any funky house
(Yet!) or all the many breaks I'm happy listening to it all,
because its not about genre or the DJ its all about the music.
I'm a new DJ so I don't claim to be Top Notch at anything
yet but I know that with practice and my love for the music
I can do anything I want to, ultimately I'm here for the music
I am just an instrument to help the music take you where you
want to go, Call me a Bebop Bus Driver with no destination
if you want to. Thanks to everyone out there for listening
to music and making it a part of your life hopefully an enriching
one. Check out my vinyl collection as well as some of my other
musings in the sidebar to your left. Thanks again for checking
out my little corner on the web and.....
Most importantly "Follow the Beat"
